Like anything worthwhile, painting can be torturous, as well as fulfilling!
I am very fortunate to live so close to water, and love being outdoors where I feel one with nature. I am most interested in capturing light, and how color and shape define space and time. Water and art have always been a comfort to me since childhood.
I use soft pastels to capture water scenes. Mostly I use my fingers to smudge the paint on a sandpaper- like surface, good for holding lots of earthy pigment. The tactile sense and immediate response of the pastels appeal to me. Many of these scenes are from or near my home on Lake Champlain.
